Our Vision
________________________________________________

Meet other Parents who want their children to have a TRULY International education! Our School, THE INTERNATIONAL DUTCH SCHOOL, would like to create a network of families who value foreign languages and cultures as a major part of their child's education. We hope to exchange information and experiences in order to help our children become trilingual speakers! O4M is a caring, vibrant and forward thinking Dutch International community. The school itself operates as a non profit, co-educational international Dutch school with a vision to prepare students from the ages of 1,5 to 18 years of age for the challenges that they will face as citizens of the 21st Century. As such, our shared educational goal is to develop independent, confident and principled individuals able and willing to fulfil the role of valuable members of society and who will be able to speak Dutch, English and Portuguese.

OUR GROUPS

Creche from 1,5 years till 6 years
Toddlers & Pre-school from 1,5 till 4 years

Primary school:
Groups 1 & 2

Groups 3, 4, 5

Group 6, 7 and 8

Secundary school - 12 years till 18 years.

A full time Dutch qualified member of staff is responsible for each class and, in addition, we also have part-time member of staff who supports the work of teachers during the week. Students are taught the Dutch Curriculum.

The curriculum at the Dutch School O4M is similar to the curriculum ran at the PRIMARY SCHOOLS in The Netherlands. All subjects, "taal, rekenen, lezen, schrijven, aardrijkskunde, geschiedenis, natuur etc" are taught according the most recent programs used in The Netherlands. The instruction language is mostly Dutch.

The Dutch School O4M will be under the super vision of Mr. R.W.M Roozenburg, Chief inspector primary education abroad . A inspector's delegation will visits the Dutch International School every four years.
As a requirement from the Dutch Ministry of Education The International Dutch School has to provide the parents with a yearly update of a "Schoolguide". In the Schoolguide the parents can find all details about the school. This schoolguide is only available in Dutch for now.

Students are taught the Dutch curriculum in preparation for their CITO end test. From all students from group 3 to 7 CITO-LVS tests are taken twice a year.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Students that do not speak or understand Dutch, the so-called "beginners", sometimes will be integrated in the group, and sometimes will be instructed separately, depending on how large the group is. Younger beginners are always integrated.

All teaching is done with professional, NOB-approved materials.

Dutch and Flemish culture will be addressed in thematic units, and the celebration of some Dutch cultural events and holidays will be observed.

Lessons in Music, Art, PE and IT take place in English and/or Portuguese.

From group 1 onwards Portuguese and English lessons are taken by all students. Through the years the number of lessons are increasing up to three lessons per week in group 7 and 8. The level of Portuguese and English at the end of group 8 is more then sufficient to let the Dutch students cope with their teachers in year 8 of any other (International) school.

The O4M plans to start a secundary school as soon as we have a minimum of 10 pupils interested to follow secundary education with us. We will proceed with this in relationship with the WERELDSCHOOL in the Netherlands. The levels will be VMBO-tl class 1 till 4, HAVO class 1 till 5 and VWO class 1 till 6. If you would like to know more about this, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Library

The Dutch library, hosts a lot of Dutch reading books, as well as access to various Portuguese and English books. Every week a Dutch library-mother accompanies the smaller children to the library to read, help them choose their books and read a story to the group. The level of books provided ranges from the Dutch level Avi 1 to level 9 and over. The Dutch library will be completely computerized. Children can search for books, and link up with child friendly websites to support their work.

We hope that you will find answers to any questions that you may have about the O4M on these pages. We would welcome your visit to our school in the near future so that you can witness our programmes of study in action. In the meantime, please contact us if you need any further information.

Afternoon childcare is from 13.00 hr to 18.30 hr.

We offer parents the flexibility of full time, morning or afternoon child care, or any combination of these, on a full week or odd day basis.
We are open all the year round except Bank Holidays and the month of August.

We offer flexibility - the ability for parents to tailor make their childcare arrangements.

There is a daily diary kept for the little ones, letting parents know when and what they have eaten, when they have slept and had their nappies changed!
We let the children control their own learning by letting them make choices through structured and free play activities.
Your child can be passed up to group 1 of the primary school on completion of the Peuter / Toddler period.
